MONGOLIAN LAKES





Mongolia can be called a country of thousand of lakes.

According to estimation of scientists, there are more than 3500 small and large lakes in the territory of Mongolia. Each lake has a different size. The most of the large lakes are located in the western region of the country, but the small lakes are mainly exist in eastern region of Mongolia.

One of the largest lake is UVS, with a surface of 3350 sq.km. It is a stagnant lake, which has much quantity of salt.   



The second largest lake is KHOVSGOL, with a surface of 2620 sq.km. But its depth is about 240m. The Khovsgol nuur is considered a deepest one, not only in Mongolia but in all Central Asia.

The 3rd largest is KHAR US lake, with a surface of 1852 sq.km, together with its island Agbash.
The 4th one is KHYARGAS lake, surface of this salt-water lake is over 1400 sq.km.
